Take Cover!

By R.K. Campbell,
Contributing Editor

When examining tactical problems, we must apply theory to range exercises in realistic settings. The consequence of a mistake for real is not a pleasant reality. Range time is more than play acting but the similarities exist. As in dog training, it must be fun for the dog, too, or little will be accomplished. Among my earliest memories of handgun training are my grandfather, W. R. Williams' admonitions to take cover if I was unlucky enough to find myself in a gun battle. His tactical cautions were priceless

The Rules of Cover:

Keep to one side of cover,
Avoid cover's sharp edges,
Refuse to extend the gun past cover,
And don't place the body in danger.
