GET IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OUT OF YOUR
CONCEALED CARRY WEAPON

by Sandy Lindsey

One of the problems with carrying a concealed weapon on your person, which is a much safer place to carry it than in a vulnerable purse, is the fact that this usually limits the size of the weapon you can carry. So how can you get .357 performance out of a compact .38? Or 9mm performance out of a pocket-size .380? By using ammunition that is specifically designed for defensive purposes.

Defensive ammo isn't as intimidating as it sounds. We tested MagSafe Ammunition, one of the most popular defensive brands on the market today, and found that in all cases it had less recoil than conventional ammunition, allowing for greater control of the weapon when shooting off several rounds in rapid succession, as in a combat situation. Though it handled extremely well during our gel-target tests at the range, MagSafe is definitely not a paper target ammunition. It is solely designed to dump its bullet energy in the first 8 to 10 inches of an attacker's body, to produce a sensory overload that will stop an attacker, something that a conventional deep penetrating bullet, for all it's power cannot do. Upon initial penetration, a MagSafe slug breaks apart into tiny fragments that create wound channels up to four inches wide. This may seem extreme, but such stopping power is of vital importance should you find yourself facing an attacker who is high on crack or other mind altering drugs, which can leave him almost totally oblivious to the pain cause by a conventional round.

At the same time that it's doing all this nasty damage to your attacker, MagSafe is earning the "Safe" part of it's name by featuring a reduced wall penetration hazard. Some loads actually break apart when they come into contact with sheetrock interior walls, though most calibers are reported to have enough penetration to seriously injure a criminal hiding behind an interior door. MagSafe also features a low ricochet hazard which causes the bullet to break apart as they glance off a solid object such as a brick wall. This comes in handy if you find yourself forced to defend yourself in a crowded area.
